I've always had a love for creating things, and knew from a young age that I wanted to do something with computers. I started computer programming in high school and never stopped since. I studied programming after I finished school and started to work straight after my studies.
I've always wanted to live in Canada since I can remeber. In 2018 I had the opportunity to move to Canada and moved with my wife to Vancouver, British Columbia. Warp Development opened a branch in Vancouver, which I helped to run after my move to Canada. My role was to help grow this branch by finding more clients while being the technical lead for our local projects in Vancouver.
Currently I'm working as a senior web developer for OXD Consulting - A local company based in Gastown, Vancouver.
I have a strong .Net background (ASP.Net, MVC, .Net Core). I like to play around with new technology in my spare time to learn new skills.
As the Director of Project Services at OXD, I had the pleasure of working with Gerrit van der Merwe on a large scale project to redesign the fortisbc.com website. The vendor chose Sitefinity as the CMS and as an organization we had only maintained sites that were on the Sitefinity platform. A ground up redesign using Sitefinity was going to be a good challenge for us.
Gerrit brought many years of .NET experience to our delivery team and we leaned on him to make technical decisions that would be best suited to meet the customers needs to have an easy-to-use and intuitive CMS for the content management team to work with day-to-day. He provided Sitefinity expertise throughout the project and that was critical during the early on user experience design phase of the project where he would review wireframes and make recommendations that would best compliment what could be achieved with Sitefinity out of the box. This allowed for a simplified implementation, where possible, and reduced the costs for our client.
At OXD we focus our solutions on human centred design and Gerrit was onboard with that approach as he ensured the implementation would meet both our clients needs and their customers needs. Gerrit was a great teammate that we appreciated and enjoyed working with.
I've worked on various projects for different clients which includes FortisBC.com (Sitefinity CMS, .Net), WorkBC job board (Angular, .Net Core), Alberta Childcare services (Django, Python, Vue) and Alberta digital court systems (Django, Electron, Vue).
Moved in 2018 to Vancouver, Canada to open the Vancouver branch for Warp Development. Working as a senior developer and new business manager.
Since in Canada I've worked as the technical lead on a re-platform for a big natural gas company in British Columbia, and working on a re-platform for a job-board platform as a senior .Net developer.
Started working at Warp Development after my studies as a junior web developer. I worked my way up the company over the years and ended up working as a team lead for a big client and was part of the EXCO team of the company. Worked for almost 11 years at the South African branch at Warp Development.
I've worked on various projects over the years which included Facebook apps, e-commerce websites, medical-aid websites that intergarate with custom software, hybrid mobile applications, warehouse management systems just to name a few.
